Wichita State University Shockers sweep fifth tournament this season

201213WSUShockers_small.jpgThe Wichita State men's and women's Shocker Bowling teams (pictured) have each earned another title for the season. Both teams took first place at the inaugural Trailblazer Tournament over the weekend in Terre Haute, Ind. The men defeated tournament host Vincennes University for the title, 3-1. The Lady Shockers went the distance against Marian University and sealed a 3-2 victory with a 279-163 win in the deciding fifth game.

xbowling becomes title sponsor of USBC Collegiate Championships


Mobile sports challenge leader xbowling has partnered with the International Bowling Campus to become the title sponsor of college bowling's flagship events starting this year. The multi-year partnership establishes new names for two major championships - the xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships and the xbowling Intercollegiate Singles Championships. Both events will take place in Lincoln, Neb., this April and the finals will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network.

Third Bowling Combine for College Prospects to be held August 6-10 at ITRC

Program brings together youth bowlers and college coaches

2013BowlingCombineNo147_small.jpgThe Bowling Combine for College Prospects has been a popular program for youth bowlers and collegiate coaches, filling to capacity in each of its first two years. Applications for the 2013 Bowling Combine, which will take place Aug. 6-10 at the ITRC in Arlington, now are being accepted, and another full house is expected. The program was developed to bring together youth bowlers, who want to compete at the collegiate level, and college coaches, who are looking for talented bowlers for their programs.

20130128KutztownUMESHawks_small.jpg The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Hawks won their second straight Kutztown Golden Bear Invitational title, besting Vanderbilt in the finals, 4-1. Along the way they shot a 300 game in the first match of the day. It was just the second time in school history the Hawks have shot a perfect game in Baker play. The perfect five line-up was: Kristie Lopez (Puerto Rico), Valentina Collazos (Colombia), Mariana Alvarado (Mexico), Anggie Ramirez (Colombia) and T'nia Falbo (United States).

CBS Sports Network to air USBC Intercollegiate Team and Singles Championships

USBCLogow_small.jpgThe United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Singles Championships and the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships will be part of a four-week series that will air nationally in May on CBS Sports Network. This is the 12th consecutive year of national television for the team event and the second for singles. Dave LaMont will handle play-by-play, while USBC spokesman and Team USA member Chris Barnes will provide color commentary.

Singapore's Jazreel Tan & Indonesia's Tannya Roumimper earn their sixth spot on the All-Tournament team this season

2011WSULogo_small.jpgThe women's bowling team of the Wichita State University completed their time in Vegas with a second win for the trip. The Lady Shockers took home top honors at the 2012 Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 20-21. They won the Collegiate Shoot-out title the day prior to the Las Vegas Invitational. In the championship match, the WSU women came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat 2012 Intercollegiate Team Champion Webber International, 3-1, for the title.

Shockers sweep 26th annual Collegiate Shoot-Out in Las Vegas

Miguel Lopez, Tannya Roumimper & Jazreel Tan make All-Tournament Teams

201213WSUShockers_small.jpg The men and women of Shocker Bowling (pictured) swept the 26th annual Collegiate Shoot-Out in Las Vegas. The men topped a field of 44 teams while the women bested a field of 17 teams. This is the fourth tournament win of the season for the men and the fifth for the women. Miguel Lopez earned All-Tournament men's team honors while Tannya Roumimper and Jazreel Tan made the women's All-Tournament team.

Wichita State Shockers sweep Leatherneck Classic


The Wichita State University's Shocker men's and women's bowling teams brought home another victory for the season after sweeping the first place titles at the Leatherneck Classic. The Shocker men swept top qualifier Robert Morris College – Illinois in the title match with a 2-0 win, while the women came out on top with a 2-0 win over Ashford University. This tournament win marks the third win of the season for each of the men's and women's teams.

2011WSULogo_small.jpgThe Wichita State University's Shocker men's and women's bowling teams dominate their fields to earn top honors this weekend at the second annual Jayhawk Collegiate Classic tournament in Lawrence, Kan. This was the third tournament of the season for the Shockers. Three men (Devin Bidwell, Marcus Berndt and Blake Demore) and three women (Jazreel Tan, Allie Ijams and Dasha Kovalova) earned All-Tournament Team honors for their efforts during the competition.

University of Maryland Eastern Shore tops pre-season Media Poll

Hawks own the No. 1 ranking in both the media and coaches pre-season polls

2011UMESHawksLogo2_small.jpgThe two-time defending national champion Lady Hawks of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) are poised for another great season as they sit on top of both the media and coaches pre-season polls. The National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) released their pre-season media poll recently and it nearly duplicates the coaches' poll, perching UMES at the top. The Hawks return four of their five starters, including All-Americans Anggie Ramirez and T'nia Falbo.

Bowling Combine tests potential collegiate bowlers

More than 20 college coaches were on hand to watch 48 girls and 60 boys were run through a series of tests at the ITRC

2012BowlingCombine_small.jpg More than 100 student-athletes had the opportunity for their skills to be evaluated and to meet with college coaches during the four-day Bowling Combine for College Prospects, which wrapped up Friday at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington. The 48 girls and 60 boys who participated in this year's Bowling Combine were run through a series of tests at the ITRC, the official training center of Team USA.

TheBowlingCombineLogo_small.jpgThe opportunity to have their skills evaluated at a state-of-the-art training facility and to meet with college coaches drew a sellout group of student-athletes to the Bowling Combine for College Prospects last summer. The program's successful debut resulted in more than 200 student-athletes submitting applications for the 2012 Bowling Combine, which will be held Aug. 7-11 at the ITRC in Arlington. While capacity was expanded this year, constraints will allow just more than 100 athletes to take part in the Bowling Combine.

Wichita State Shockers: Exempt Team Members announced for 2012-2013 season

Team includes Junior Team USA members, national team members from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Ukraine, Sweden and Canada

2011WSULogo_small.jpgThe Wichita State Shocker Bowling coaching staff has selected six men and seven women to be placed directly on the 2012-2013 selected team for the upcoming intercollegiate season. The Shocker women's team will enjoy the skills of a core group of five returning selected team members from this past season's team. The 2012-2013 Shocker men's team will have four returning selected team members. Head Coach for the Shocker Bowling program is Gordon Vadakin.

2011UMESHawksLogo2_small.jpgThe latest National Tenpins Coaches Association (NTCA) poll was just released and to no surprise the 2012 NCAA Women's Bowling Champions from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) were ranked Number One, amassing 593 points and 19 first place votes. The ranking gives UMES a 15th overall ranking in the Capital One Cup official winter standings, based on the coaches poll voting.

New scholarship offered to Shocker Bowling's student-athletes

2011ChuckHallSoTBrentBowers_small.jpgAlumnus Brent Bowers (2007-2011) is giving back to the Shocker Bowling Program through a $500 scholarship. The Bower's Family Ambassador Scholarship is a $500 award given in the spring semester. It is awarded to a team member who represents the sport of bowling with the highest character and integrity. Bowers is a dynamic former Shocker that has an immense amount of love for sport of bowling. This scholarship is intended to be awarded to a deserving student-athlete who embodies the love and passion of bowling similar to him.

UMESLogo_small.jpgThe Center for HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Media Advocacy held their annual awards banquet this past Friday night, April 20. The awards celebrate the 2011 campaign. An article published by announcing the winners stated that "the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) was the big winner of the evening, capturing best research center, best female athlete and coach, and best women's program."

Webber International sweeps titles at Intercollegiate Team Championships

CBS Sports Network will air the women's and men's final on May 18 and 25

The Warriors men's team took down perennial power and 10-time champion Wichita State, 2.5-0.5, while the Webber International women defeated Midland, 2-0, at Sun Valley Lanes. CBS Sports Network will air the women's and men's final May 18 and 25.

Young (l.) won the men's title in convincing fashion, defeating Midland's Joe Steiner, 245-191, while Drewes (r.) took the women's title with a 204-147 victory over Nebraska's Elise Bolton.

Webber International to bowl for both titles at Intercollegiate Team Championships

Men will battle Wichita State, women take on Midland in finals on Saturday

USBCITCLogo_small.jpgThe Webber International men will battle Wichita State, while Midland will take on the Webber International women for collegiate national titles Saturday at the 2012 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships. The four teams emerged through the double-elimination match play bracket Friday at Sun Valley Lanes to reach the nationally televised finals. CBS Sports Network will air the women's championship match May 18 at 10 p.m. Eastern, while the men's final will be shown May 25 at 10 p.m. Eastern.

Eight teams unbeaten after two rounds at Intercollegiate Team Championships

USBCITCLogo_small.jpgAfter two opening rounds of match play Thursday night, four men's teams and four women's teams remained undefeated in the double-elimination bracket at the 2012 USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships. In the men's division, Wichita State, Robert Morris-Illinois, Webber International and Lindenwood made it through their opening matches at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb. unscathed. For the women, Webber International, McKendree, Lindenwood and Midland stayed unbeaten.
