BOOM Apparel Intercollegiate Club Championships to debut in 2014

2011USBCCollegiateLogo_small.jpg The 2013-14 USBC Collegiate season will see the debut of a new national championship event as the , rounding out four consecutive weeks of post season bowling. The BOOM Apparel Intercollegiate Club Championships will be held April 5th and 6th, 2014 at All-Star Bowl in Indianapolis, Ind. Currently four national championships are contested at the college level each year. The addition of the BOOM Apparel Intercollegiate Club Championships will give teams the opportunity to compete in a fifth event.

Collegiate Prospects put to the test at 3rd Bowling Combine

Bowling Combine draws bowlers from 30 states and also from around the world


It's not summer school, but more than 100 youth bowlers are going through a rigorous testing process this week at the International Training and Research Center. The 2013 Bowling Combine for College Prospects started Tuesday and will run through Saturday. The Bowling Combine, developed to bring together youth bowlers who want to compete at the collegiate level with college coaches looking for talented bowlers for their programs, is in its third year.

Webber International standout Katie Thornton earns 2013 PBA Billy Welu Scholarship Award

2013WeluScholarshipKatieThornton_small.jpgWebber International University bowling standout Katie Thornton (pictured) of Chesapeake, Va., has been selected as the winner of the 2013 PBA Billy Welu Scholarship Award. In addition to her accomplishments as a collegiate bowler, Thornton holds a 4.0 grade point average and is currently completing her MBA studies at Webber International in Babson Park, Fla., majoring in international business. The $1,000 Billy Welu Scholarship is awarded annually in honor of the PBA Charter Member.

Wichita State University announces exempt team members for 2013-2014 season

2011WSULogo_small.jpgThe Wichita State University's Shocker Bowling coaching staff has chosen seven men and eight women to be placed directly on the selected team for the 2013-2014 collegiate bowling season. The Shocker men's team will have a group of four returning selected team members from this past season's team, while the coaches exempted five women off of last season's team. Additional players will be added to the selected teams upon completion of the tryout process.

They combined for 11 All-America nods in their illustrious careers, becoming some of the most decorated student-athletes in the history of UMES Athletics. For T'nia Falbo, Anggie Ramirez and Andre Walsh attending the University of Maryland Eastern Shore wasn't just about being the best in their sport, but being the best in the classroom as well.

Maryland Eastern Shore (l.) swept Pikeville, 2-0, to take the trophy, while Robert Morris (r.) knocked off McKendree, 2-0, to take the men's title.

Saginaw's Lorincz, Nebraska's Mickelson win xbowling Intercollegiate Singles Championships

Lorincz defeated Urbana's Brock Finch, 245-222, to win the men's title, while Mickelson took down Wichita State's Tannya Roumimper, 289-233, at Sun Valley Lanes. The semifinals and finals will be televised on CBS Sports Network May 3 and 10.

Finals set for xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships

2013ITCxbowlingLogo_small.jpgThe Maryland Eastern Shore women will take on Pikeville, while the Robert Morris-Illinois men will battle McKendree for collegiate national titles Saturday at the 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships. The four teams emerged through the double-elimination match-play bracket Friday at Sun Valley Lanes to reach the nationally televised finals on CBS Sports Network May 17 at 10 p.m. and May 24 at 10 p.m. Eastern.

Eight teams unbeaten at xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships


Four men's teams and four women's teams escaped the first two rounds undefeated Thursday night at the 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships. In the men's division, McKendree, Fresno State, William Penn and Robert Morris-Illinois made it through their opening matches with an unblemished record. On the women's side, Maryland Eastern Shore, Wichita State, Wright State and Pikeville stayed unbeaten.

Kent (r.) and Roumimper (l.) were honored with the rest of the All-Americans at the Night of Champions banquet held Wednesday in conjunction with the 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships, which will open Thursday at Sun Valley Lanes.

Semifinalists determined in xbowling Intercollegiate Singles Championships

2013ISCSemifinalists_small.jpg Bowling in front of the home crowd at Sun Valley Lanes and fresh off an NCAA title over the weekend, Nebraska's Kristina Mickelson led the way as the top four women and top four men were determined Tuesday for the 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Singles Championships semifinals. Mickelson is joined in the women's semifinals by a trio of Wichita State bowlers - Jazreel Tan of Singapore, Daria Kovalova of Ukraine and Tannya Roumimper of Indonesia.

Huskers capture fourth national title for Nebraska in NCAA Championships

2013NCAAChampionNebraska_small.jpgThe University of Nebraska women's bowling team captured its fourth NCAA title in school history Saturday night, as the top-ranked Huskers defeated Vanderbilt University, 4.5-2.5 (211-199, 166-197, 156-169,190-190, 202-182, 246-200) in the finals of the NCAA Women's Bowling Championships at Super Bowl Lanes in Canton, Mich., in front of a national television audience. It was the first for Nebraska since 2009. NU also won back-to-back NCAA titles in 2004 and 2005.

IBMA announces eight nominees for men's and women's Collegiate Bowlers of the Year

IBMALogo_small.jpgThe International Bowling Media Association (formerly Bowling Writers Association of America) has announced the sixteen nominees for the 2013 Collegiate Bowler of the Year. The committee, comprised of IBMA members who are bowling media and former college coaches, met on March 26, 2013 to determine the top eight male and female players eligible to receive the award. The 2012 Collegiate Bowlers of the Year were Jazreel Tan, Wichita State and Marshall Kent, Robert Morris-Illinois. Both players are in the running again this year.

Webber International women cruise to the title in NAIA Championship

Robert Morris University captures men's title; Webber men finish third

In the women's final, Webber defeated Midland University, 4-1, in the deciding match. Robert Morris came out of the losers bracket and defeated Calumet twice in the men's championship.

Field of 32 set for xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships

2013ITCLogo_small.jpg The number of teams in the hunt for collegiate national titles was narrowed to 32, with one notable omission, on Sunday for the 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships. The field of 16 men's teams and 16 women's teams was determined at sectional qualifiers at four sites with the top four teams in each division advancing to the finals, which will be held April 18-20 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb.

Field set for 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Singles Championships


The field of 24 men and 16 women who will compete for individual national championships was determined Friday at four 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Singles Championships sectional qualifiers. The Intercollegiate Singles Championships will take place April 16 and 20 at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Neb. Qualifying for the national finals was held in Allentown, Pa.; Fairview Heights, Ill.; Smyrna, Tenn.; and Las Vegas.

Sectional qualifier field announced for 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships

2013ITCLogo_small.jpg The nation's college bowling programs learned their fate Wednesday as sectional-qualifying assignments were handed out for the 2013 xbowling Intercollegiate Team Championships. The four sectional qualifiers will be held March 9-10 at AMF Parkway Lanes in Allentown, Pa.; Texas Star Lanes in Las Vegas; St. Clair Bowl in Fairview Heights, Ill.; and Smyrna Bowling Center in Smyrna, Tenn.

UMES wins seventh title this season at Morgan State's James Brown Invitational

20130217MorganStateInvitationalUMES_small.jpg For the seventh time this season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's bowling team (pictured) claimed an event championship, this time knocking off Nebraska and Arkansas State, both 4-1, to win the 2013 James Brown Invitational, hosted by Morgan State University. The line-up was Victoria Jones (Baltimore, Md.), Megan Buja (Rockford, Ill.), Valentina Collazos (Cali, Colombia), Anggie Ramirez (Bogota, Colombia) and T'nia Falbo (Greensburg, Pa.).

UMES Hawks defeat Fairleigh Dickinson twice to take DSU Capital Classic title


The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (pictured) went a perfect 13-0 en route to take their sixth title of the season in the Delaware State University Capital Classic. The Hawks defeated No. 5 Fairleigh Dickinson University twice to win the tournament held at the Brunswick Zone Doverama in Dover, Del. The winning team featuring Victoria Jones, Megan Buja, Mariana Alvarado, Anggie Ramirez and T'nia Falbo and was coached by UMES' head Coach Kristina Frahm.
